PERSONAL RECOVERY STORY

At 43, I Finally Connected My Work Stress With How Little I Was Moving

A six-week personal journey from long workdays and constant tension to building movement and recovery into a demanding schedule.

Small changes to my daily schedule helped me make room for movement.

My calendar was full. My body barely moved.

Meetings. Emails. Deadlines. Then more meetings.

I kept thinking I would exercise once work slowed down. It never did.

By the end of the day, I felt physically drained even though I had spent most of it sitting. I realized I had been treating movement as something I could fit in only when work was finished.

I stopped waiting for work to become less busy.

  • Short walking breaks
  • Standing during selected calls
  • Gentle mobility
  • Regular exercise sessions
  • Better evening recovery
  • Red light therapy as an optional component of my recovery routine

Red light therapy is an optional adjunct—not a replacement for professional assessment, exercise, or a gradual movement routine.

WEEKS 1–2

I added movement in five-minute blocks. That was all I could reliably guarantee at first.

WEEKS 3–4

Those small blocks became habits. I walked during phone calls when practical and took breaks between focused work sessions.

WEEKS 5–6

I moved into more structured sessions. But my workday wasn't completely sedentary anymore, and that made the routine easier to maintain.

Movement became part of my workday rather than something I had to postpone until evening.

What changed

  • Movement became part of work rather than an escape from work
  • Breaks became scheduled
  • Exercise became more consistent
  • Evenings became less chaotic
  • Recovery became intentional

I didn’t need a less busy life.

I needed to stop letting a busy life eliminate movement completely.
